Apple confirms it’s buying Beats for $3\u00a0billion<\/em><\/h3>\n

Apple has just confirmed plans to purchase Beats Electronics for $3 billion. The acquisition ranks as the largest that Apple has ever made and will see it\u00a0take ownership of\u00a0an enormously successful and profitable line\u00a0of consumer headphones as well as a burgeoning\u00a0subscription music service.\u00a0Beats co-founders Jimmy Iovine and Dr. Dre\u00a0will also join Apple\u00a0as part of the acquisition,\u00a0which it will pay for with\u00a0$2.6 billion in cash and $400 million in stock.<\/em><\/p>\n

Apple sees Beats’ focus on music as complementary to its own, and it’ll have Iovine and Dre working with it on\u00a0future music offerings. “They\u2019re going to be coming up with [features]\u00a0that blow your mind,” Apple CEO Tim Cook\u00a0tells\u00a0The New York Times, “and products you haven\u2019t thought of yet, and seeing around the next corner to articulate the way to take music to an even higher level than it is now.”\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n
